Tzatziki Sauce

Tzatziki sauce became an everyday recipe in my kitchen when I began pairing it with Pork Gyros. It adds freshness and creaminess to the gyros and is also an incredible dip on its own. I love eating it with cucumbers, bell peppers, and pita bread or pairing it with other dinners like falafel bowls and chicken shawarma.

Tzatziki Sauce

You'll need to squeeze all the liquid out of the grated cucumber before using it.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium cucumber (about 1 cup) shredded
  • 2 cups Greek yogurt
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  • Shred the cucumber using the large holes on your grater. Put the shredded cucumber in a fine mesh strainer and press out all of the liquid.
  • Combine the cucumber, yogurt, garlic, red wine vinegar, salt, and pepper in a medium size bowl. Stir, taste, and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  • Eat as a dip or serve on top of gyros!

Notes

You can make this tzatziki sauce ahead of time and pull it out for a snack or to use on a meal. I find that if I make the sauce a couple of hours before serving the flavors meld and taste even better.
