World’s Best White Pizza

My absolute favorite pizza to make at home is this white pizza loaded with roasted butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, and chicken sausage. A head of garlic is roasted to create a creamy sauce and the pie is topped with as much Italian cheese as you can handle.

Use homemade pizza crust or go for store-bought, it doesn’t matter as the star of the show is the white sauce with all the delicious toppings. This recipe is easy to make vegetarian and will fill you up for a more than complete dinner.

World’s Best White Pizza

I love the bake-at-home pizza dough from Trader Joe's. It has a homemade feel without the extra work.

Ingredients

Pizza

  • pizza dough homemade or store bought
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 head garlic
  • 1 cup butternut squash cubed
  • 1/2 pound Brussel sprouts quartered
  • 1 link chicken sausage cut into thin slices
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup parmeasan cheese grated
  • 1 1/2 cups white Italian cheese shredded
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Prepare large baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Place cubed butternut squash and Brussel sprouts on the baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  • Cut about 1/4 inch off of the garlic head so you can see inside the garlic cloves. Drizzle olive oil on top of the garlic and wrap in tin foil. Add to the baking sheet.
  • Roast the butternut squash, Brussel sprouts, and garlic for about 40 minutes, stirring occasionally to check for doneness. If the butternut squash and Brussel sprouts are done before 40 minutes, take them out and put the garlic wrapped in tinfoil on the oven rack to finish cooking.
  • Once done, take the garlic out of the foil and squeeze to press it out of the skin. Smash it into a paste with a fork. Save for the sauce.
  • Turn the oven to 375 degrees for the pizza.
  • If you are working with dough, heat a cast iron skillet or pizza stone in the oven first. Add dough and bake in the oven for 10 minutes. No need to pre-bake already-cooked pizza crust from the store if that is what you're using.
  • To make the sauce, melt butter on the stove over medium heat. Once butter is melted whisk in flour until you form a paste, whisking for another 30 seconds. Slowly pour in milk, whisking the entire time. Bring to a simmer and whisk for 2-3 minutes until the sauce starts to thicken and is smooth. Mix in the roasted garlic and parmesan cheese.
  • Pour white sauce on top of the partially baked crust. Top with vegetables, chicken sausage, and cheese.
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes or until cheese starts to get brown and bubbly.
  • Cut into pieces and serve!

Notes

This recipe is easy to make vegetarian by leaving off the chicken sausage.
You can pre-roast your veggies earlier in the day or even the day before so that all you have to do is throw them onto the pizza and bake.
