Homemade French Fries

Baked or air fried, these super easy potatoes will become one of your go-to side dishes. Although called french fries, they aren’t actually fried, making them much healthier and something you can add to your dinner rotation guilt-free. They are crisp with tons of flavor from a delicious spice combination. I love to pair them with my Turkey Burgers.

Homemade French Fries

You want your potatoes to be fully coated in spices to get the best flavor and texture.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds russet potatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Prepare a large baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Wash and cut potatoes into strips. The thickness will vary but aim for 1/4 inch or less.
  • Toss potatoes in a medium bowl with olive oil and spices, covering thoroughly.
  • Pour potatoes onto a baking sheet in one layer. Bake for 35-40 minutes, mixing halfway through.
  • Once fries begin to brown and are fork tender, remove from the oven and serve.

Notes

You can also cook these in an air fryer at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. I find they get crispier when cooked in the air fryer.
I typically use russet potatoes as I find they give the best french fry texture, but if you have Yukon gold potatoes feel free to use them as a substitute and it will be just as delicious!
